Fleet of latest design vessels with spectacular advantages in terms of transport economy and emissions footprint
In the run-up to the market dislocations in 2008, we saw an opportunity to dispose of our ageing managed fleet and seek opportunities for renewal. The rationale was not utterly based on timing the market, but it encompassed the essential element of replacing aged tonnage with latest design vessels bearing spectacular advantages in terms of transport economy and emissions footprint. Replacement costs were maintained at
excessively high levels for some time, while our managed fleet was consistently reduced down to two vessels.
In 2010, we began again to selectively grow our managed fleet through successive orders of medium-sized, modern and economical dry bulk vessels. We have so far taken delivery of four of these new builds, which have been placed in service and remain on the watch to identify opportunities to expand our managed fleet further.
